STEM Instructional Practices Logo.png

NASA integrates STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and the Engineering Design Process (EDP) in every aspect of its exploration of our Earth, the solar system and beyond. The Taking the STEM Challenge badge is a way to introduce STEM and the engineering design process to K-12 students in the classroom. This badge has educators developing a STEM Thematic Unit Plan, STEM Lesson Plan, STEM Integration Plan and documentation of the educator teaching a segment of the developed STEM lesson. This badge will require 6.0 hrs to complete all requirements needed to earn the badge.

This badge addresses the following Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI):

ETS1.A: Defining and Delimiting Engineering Problems

ETS1.B: Developing Possible Solutions

ETS1.C: Optimizing the Design Solution
